Black Friday
Someone wants you as a sitter on Black Friday (not someone you're working for daily), do you charge extra per hour than if it were a random Friday? Thanks.

My cost starts at $20/hr with a minimum of 4 hours (even if they don't use them all), so I probably wouldn't charge extra unless it was very early in the morning. Or, if they wanted me there at, say, 5am, I'd up my minimum hours to 6. They don't have to be gone for 6 hours, but to be at someone's house that early, I don't want to drive home at 9am feeling like crap and only $80 the richer.

Aahaha, I so wish. I live in near BFE & the family involved balks at paying me $8/hour (even though mom's a Dr). I truly love the kids, and it was a better situation when I started or I'd be long-gone. Thanks for answering.

I have a "weekend rate" that starts on Friday at noon and goes until Monday at 9am. So, to answer your question, no I wouldn't charge them any more for Black Friday vs. a regular Friday... But my weekend rate is $20/hr in Winter and $25/hr in Summer with a 4 hr. mimum, like Kara said. And I partially do this because otherwise it's not worth my time... though for you, if $8/hr for less than 4 hrs is worth it, by all means do it.

Nice with the weekend rate.

I've had a convo with the group before about the rate. Basically I love the kids too much to say scionara (little girl was flower girl in my sister's wedding, I took her to the hospital when baby boy was born [my choice, not requested by the parents]).

No parents around here would pay $20, we (the local sitters) are lucky to get $10 [small towns suck hxc]. Plus, the mom has an unethical alternative sitter (one of her patients); so I'm thinking of asking if she'll pay me holiday pay, and attempting to negotiate from there.

Thanks for your input.

I think requestion holiday pay is totally reasonable as she might find it very hard to find another sitter on that day with all the family traveling and visits other people are doing and whatnot.

I'd mention holiday pay, too. I have a "holiday pay" policy for any day schools consider a holiday (except district holidays, like teacher work days), which Black Friday would be.
